旧时官厅卯时（早上五点到七点）开始办公，到班人员签到，叫画卯。现泛指上班时报到。
舊時官衙吏役按時到官府報到，聽候點驗。《水滸傳》第二四回：「次日，武松清早出去縣裡畫卯，直到日中未歸。」《喻世明言．卷一九．楊謙之客舫遇俠僧》：「投文畫卯了，悶悶的就散了堂，退入衙裡來。」也稱為「打卯」、「應卯」。
