1.原指夜间潜入某处前，先投以石子，看看有无反应，借以探测情况◇用以比喻进行试探。
行路時或打探情況時，扔石子探測前方情況。比喻在採取某一行動之前，先打探虛實。《施公案》第二九二回：「施公道：『已著施安去看守了。』褚標不勝驚訝道：『大人中了那人投石問路的計了。』」
